10:05 PM EST. OT included. With just one regulation loss (to Tampa Bay) and five five wins in its last seven games, the Canucks stock is once again a little too high. The Canucks are very simply not generating enough chances to sustain the winning pace that they’ve been on the last few games. That’s one of the reasons why they went 13 games recently with just one victory. Offensively challenged and with very average goaltending, the Canucks are much better suited in the underdog role. In a recent stretch of four games, Vancouver mustered just 21, 22, 25 and 24 shots on net respectively. The fired away 37 last game against the Bolts but they had six power-play opportunities in that game and did not score so they were all for the full two minutes. We also love that the Canucks have the Jets in on Saturday for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada’s late game.
Quietly, the Blue Notes are starting to play better. St. Louis cooled off the Oilers last game in a 4-1 victory to win its third game in its last four overall. Over that stretch, the Blues only loss was to the Flames, but Calgary scored seven times on just 29 shots on net. In the other games, the Blues scored four times in all of them. The Blue Notes have allowed just 26, 21, 25, 29 and 23 shots on net in five of their past six games. There is no question that they have underachieved more than any team this year but perhaps things are coming full circle for them, as they have some serious top-end talent and should not be losing as many games as they have been. This one sets up well for the Blues to keep its modest success going and we’re on it.
