7:05 PM EST. OT included. If we are just playing the goaltender, this one is a no-brainer, as the Ducks will likely use John Gibson again, despite the fact that he played last night and is coming off a big win in Pittsburgh. Coach Randy Carlyle is looking for wins and usually doesn’t worry about back-to-backs. Thus, with Ryan Miller sidelined and Chad Johnson the backup, we’ll guess that Gibson will get the call. However, if Johnson sees the crease, we will not be deterred from attacking the Rangers sub-par goaltending, which is so bad lately that it makes the Rangers a great fade.
The Rags have just two wins in their last 10 games. They've allowed at least four goals a night in six straight and has been outshot in every one of those six games plus another to make it seven in a row that they've been chasing the competition. The Rangers will turn to Alexandar Georgiev, but his .899 save percentage does not inspire, nor does his 3.37 goals against average. Of all qualified goaltenders, Georgiev ranks 47th and 57th respectively in those two categories. The only case to be made for the Rangers is their 10-3-3 home record over the last 16 games, but that only means that regression is coming unless they improve significantly between the pipes. The Ducks are on a roll (11-2-2 over their last 15 games) and as a dog against weak goaltending are worthy of another investment here.
Update: Reto Berra is not the Ducks backup. They picked up Chad Johnson on waivers and if he gets the call, over Gibson, nothing changes.
