7:05 PM EST. The Rangers are still very much under the radar, but they have a near identical record to the Panthers, which puts them ahead of schedule after pulling the plug and deciding to rebuild last spring. Coach David Quinn has put his stamp on this team as well, as he doesn't take any crap from anyone. Quinn notably benched veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk early in the year and he did the same with Brady Skjei last time out. New York was getting a little bit of buzz a couple of weeks ago, but quickly lost five of six games as soon as the market started to give it a look and so its stock is low again, especially after blowing a three-goal third period lead to the Jets last Sunday. Normally, we would not be a fan of the extended time off, but the Rags had some injuries to several key players. It looks like Pavel Buchnevich is ready to go today (been out close to a month) and Mats Zuccarello and Vladislav Namestnikov are expected to return at some point on this road trip. Finally, Henrik Lundqvist has thrived against the Panthers over the years, as he has a 25-10-3 record with a .931 save percentage, including a 4-2 decision in Manhattan three weeks ago.

This will be the final game of the Panthers season-high eight-game homestand and after collecting just eight points in the first seven games, they have got to be itching to get off the beach and on the road. Florida's most recent outing was a 5-2 loss to the Avalanche in a game that was all tied at two going into the third period. That lopsided result was even more troubling when you consider the Panthers won the special teams war after potting a powerplay marker and shutting down all four Avs power-plays, but Florida gave up 14 shots in the third and allowed Colorado to take the W after a pair of goals that were scored just 44 seconds apart. That the Panthers are scoring power-play goals (they have 17 in their last 18 games), but are not winning games is a very bad sign. Those extra-man markers are going to dry up eventually and when they do, this team will be in real trouble. The Panthers are the biggest home favorites on the board today but do not deserve to be and we’ll look to take advantage of this overlay.
