7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The Blackhawks played in Nashville last night and will return home to play the tail end of back-to-backs against the rested and very confident Flames. That alone makes the Flames worthy of getting behind here but there’s more. In five of their six wins, Calgary has scored four or more goals and allowed only nine goals in those victories. David Rittich has been strong all year long, but the Flames have been getting some contributions from Mike Smith as of late. The Flames keeper has won his last two starts, giving up only two goals but what’s more important is that the Flames only allowed 43 shots against combined in those two starts. Calgary is playing at an elite level both offensively and defensively so we’re not going to care which goaltender they use tonight, although it appears as if Rittich will get the call. The Flames are looking very good these days.

What’s not looking good? The Chicago Blackhawks. Father time and the checkbook are showing their ugly faces and the Blackhawks are sinking. They are currently mired in a three-game losing streak, which is actually decent for this team seeing they lost eight straight from Oct 27th to Nov 11th. The Blackhawks sit two points out of last place in the Central Division and part of that is lack of offence. Chicago is 23rd in the NHL, averaging 2.78 goals per game. Corey Crawford is the conformed starter so here’s a look at the goaltending matchup:

Flames: Rittich --  8-2-1, 2.21 GAA, .924 Save%

Blackhawks: Crawford --- 5-10-1, 3.18 GAA, .901 Save%

Better team, better goaltending, better offense, better defense, better state of mind and better situation.
