9:00 PM EST. We have made our position abundantly clear on the Kings. They are the NHL’s worst team that did not change with the times. They will always struggle to win games and they will not be going to the playoffs this year but they are still going to win between 25 and 30 games because that’s just the way it is in such a luck-driven sport. It’s almost like baseball, where almost every team will win 60 and lose 60 games. In the NHL, almost every team will win 25 and lose 25 and what they do with the remaining 32 will ultimately decide whether or not they will make the playoffs. This is one of those winnable games because Calgary will once again choose to go with Mike Smith in goal and when he’s in net, the fade is on.

It really doesn’t matter what category or analytic one uses because the equation will equal to Mike Smith being one of the NHL’s worst goaltenders. One can see that the company Smith keeps is with Cam Ward, Calvin Pickard and Matt Murray at the bottom of the barrel. Had Scott Darling not been waived this past week, he, too, would be in that group. Without getting into anymore details because it’s not necessary, this is a straight fade against Mike Smith at a price that must be played. We’ll concede that Calgary will outplay the Kings but Mike Smith is always in danger of losing while Cal Peterson has given the Kings a ray of hope with some outstanding goaltending.
