7:35 PM EST. We can understand the appeal of the Canadiens here, as they are expected to welcome Shea Weber back into the lineup, but it's unfair to expect him to help turn their ship around. Fading the overreaction to an injury whether a player is out or coming back into the lineup is a favorite angle of ours, as there is often an overreaction in the market to both scenarios. Weber was on the ice yesterday with David Schlemko, but coach Claude Julien suggested that the two-time Olympic gold medalist could play with Victor Mete, as the pair had some chemistry last season. The problem for Julien and Weber is that these Hurricanes are a puck possession monster and not the kind of team you want to work your kinks out against.

We've long been a fan of the storm brewing in Raleigh, but this year, like every year, the Hurricanes have nobody they can trust in the net. Carolina backed up the Brinks truck for Scott Darling, but the new equipment rules have exposed him (and many others), but at over $4-million per year, he is going to get his starts. Fortunately for us, Curtis McElhinney will patrol the crease tonight, which works on a couple of fronts. Firstly, the market likes to attack backup goaltenders and so we are spotting a much smaller price here than we should be. Finally, McElhinney is flat out better than Darling and gives the Hurricanes the best chance to win. It is a rare day that the 'Canes outworked or outshot and so we must try to take advantage of any underlay on them.
