8:05 PM EST. Ottawa was expected to be one of the bottom feeders this season after purging the roster, highlighted by the deal that sent former captain and perennial Norris Trophy candidate Erik Karlsson to San Jose. They have been anything but a pushover by playing competitive games on a nightly basis.

Senators 2015 first round draft pick, Thomas Chabot is producing like the aforementioned Erik Karlsson, with five goals and 24 points through 21 games. Matt Duchene is playing like the player we remember from his Colorado days, leading the Senators with 10 goals and 27 points, including a scorching four goals in his last two games and eight points over the last three. Who else is hot for the Sens? Rookie sensation Brady Tkachuk scores or assists on goals almost every game and creates a plethora of opportunities. Ryan Dzingel, Mark Stone and Bobby Ryan are also playing at a high level. The Senators can score in bunches while the Wild continue to try and claw out 3-2 victories.

The Wild offense has scored just three goals in their last two games, both losses. They are strong defensively and weak offensively. Minnesota’s strength of schedule ranks 28th in the league and they are just 3-5 against top-16 opposition this year. Remember, this is essentially the same roster that ended the season in Winnipeg last April and went down without much of a fight. They did nothing in the offseason and to improve and they are likely another first round exit just waiting to happen. They’re really just an average team that just lost in Chicago and also lost at home to the Sabres and if they win here as expected, good for them but as far as value goes, Ottawa can bury five goals in any game and are absolutely capable of beating this ordinary team.
