8:05 PM. OT Included. Make no mistake, the Kings are the absolute dregs of this league and they are fortunate for any positive result that comes their way including last night's 2-1 shootout win in Chicago. L.A. was outshot in that game just as it was in losses to Toronto and Calgary the two games prior. The Kings are last in the league in scoring and Ilya Kovalchuk is the only player in silver and black that has more than 10 points this season. Kovalchuk leads the Kings in scoring but would be 5th, 6th or worse on other teams. The Kings still have some credibility in the market because of the many big names that still play there but Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar and especially Jeff Carter have logged a lot of miles over the years. L.A. is slow and old, they have no goaltending and a coach that sent out Nate Thompson (0 goals, 0 assists in 18 games played this year) for the three-on-three OT session last night. The Kings are truly a pathetic bunch.

The Predators are licking their wounds after a rough road trip, but considering the unsustainable success they had away from Bridgestone Arena to start the season, that regression was not unexpected. Now we get a bit of a discount on what figures to be a team in a foul mood. The Preds are also banged up with P.K. Subban expected to sit out again tonight. Forward Viktor Arvidsson will be out 6-to-8 weeks as well with a thumb injury, but their being out only further deflates Nashville's stock. Those injuries do nothing more than influence the market into thinking they are getting an edge, but trust us when we tell you that the absence of Subban and Arvidsson has been factored into this line. It also opens the door for guys waiting in the wings and the Preds are deep enough to compensate. Furthermore, Subban’s absence is even less concerning because defense is Nashville’s strength and they have more than enough guys to make up Subban’s minutes. At the end of the day, the Kings cannot compete in the tail-end of back-to-backs with their 5th string goaltender in net against one of the league’s better teams that has now lost three in a row.
