7:05 PM EST. We faded the Devils last game out when Cory Schneider was yanked against Ottawa in a 7-3 defeat. Schneider ranks 63rd out of 65 goalies in GSAA while Keith Kinkaid ranks 17th. Kinkaid gets the start for this one so we don’t have to worry about a bunch of soft goals. The Devils have been in a bit of a funk but don’t count them out. New Jersey is completely healthy. Prior to losing to Ottawa, they buried the Penguins 5-1. They also opened the year with four straight wins while outscoring the opposition, 17-4. Over its last three games, the Devils have created more scoring chances than most and rank 3rd in that department over that span while the Maple Leafs rank 23rd over their last three games. The Devils will play their fifth straight on the road before concluding their road trip in Winnipeg on Saturday and we’re targeting that game as a great fade on the Devils as opposed to this one. They almost always play well in Toronto and the Maple Leafs might just have the sights on their upcoming four-game trip that begins Sunday in Boston and ends next Friday in Anaheim. The Leafs are coming off a misleading 3-1 victory over Vegas. Toronto was out-Corsied in that game 68-35, outchanced 35-20 and outplayed badly. Again, goaltending was the difference. While the Maple Leafs are 10-5-1 overall, they have been better on the road than at home (4-5-1) and that’s significant, as they prepare to hit the road for a welcomed trip to the West Coast. Don’t get us wrong, as the Leafs are truly a dangerous squad and scary to bet against but they lose some luster with Auston Matthews on the rack and they’re still giving up far too many scoring chances.
