7:35 PM EST. We all know the story. We’ve all seen, read or heard about the video that went viral. It’s just a few guys out having a laugh and enjoying some camaraderie, unbeknownst to them that they were being filmed and recorded. The five players in question had plenty of negative things to say about the coaches and organization, specifically special teams coach, Marty Raymond. Naturally, there is an overreaction to it. We’re pretty sure that it’s bigger in the media than it is in the Sens locker room. In this day and age of video cameras everywhere, everything is scrutinized and blown out of proportion. A bad performance by the Sens in this one, and the media will continue to have a field day but we’re suggesting that the Sens will show up, play their hearts out and emerge victorious to silence the critics at least for a day or two. Without question, there is an overreaction to that video and that makes us buyers on the Senators.

We’re also sellers on the Devils after they went into Pittsburgh last night and whacked the Penguins 5-1. The game itself was evenly played but Matt Murray couldn’t stop a puck before getting yanked while Keith Kinkaid was rock solid. Goaltending or lack thereof dictated the final score but New Jersey isn’t likely to have that same luxury tonight.

Cory Schneider has been considered an elite goaltender for years and at one time he was one but those days are long gone. Schneider starting showing signs of deterioration two years ago. Last year, Schneider missed quite a bit of time but appeared in 40 games and it wasn’t pretty. He ranked 47th in Goals Saved Above Average and 60th in Quality Save %. This year, Schneider has played in just two games and he’s looked worse with a .881 SV% and a quality save percentage that ranks 60th again (although he would not qualify yet). Cory Schneider is older and slower and the game is starting to pass him by. He’s been through injuries and he’s not of high caliber anymore but because the Devils signed him to a 7-year, 42M contract, he’ll play. They ain’t paying this stiff 6M per to sit. Come playoff time or when games matter, Schneider will be nowhere near the pipes unless Kinkaid is injured. Cory Schneider is just about finished and thus, he’s pure fade material when favored on the road in an unfavorable spot like this one. Finally, there’s the touching story of Brian Boyle recording his first career hat-trick last night after overcoming cancer. The timing of it was perfect and the messages, recognition, and stories of inspiration are flooding social media today. Both the result and Boyle’s highly publicized night sets this one up for a big Devils letdown.
