10:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The Hurricanes are good. They are a top-ranked analytic team in several categories and they dominate almost every game for long stretches. The Canes are 6-5-1 and deserved better in a 3-2 loss to Boston on Tuesday, when they outshot the B’s 44-31. That’s nice but it matters not because for Carolina, nothing has changed when it comes to its putrid goaltending. You cannot win more games than you lose without good goaltending. Goaltending is the #1 deciding factor in games and we’ll stress that until we are blue in the face.

Last night, Tampa outshot Nashville 43-23 and lost. Colorado scored 5 goals on 21 shots but lucky for the Flames, they scored six times. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 44 of 46 shots and Columbus upset San Jose. This is the only sport in which teams win constantly after getting dominated and it’s all because of goaltending. In this game, Arizona has one of the NHL’s best goaltenders while Carolina’s goaltending, be it Scott Darling or Petr Mrazek, are two of the NHL’s worst. We’re hoping it’s Darling because he is not worthy of being an NHL goaltender. If there was a prop bet available on goalies getting yanked, we would seriously bet that every time Darling starts because he truly is as weak as any goaltender we’ve ever seen and that is the basis for this wager. If we knew which goaltender was going to play better, we would win a very high percentage of games but in this game, it’s almost a sure thing that Antti Raanta will be the better goaltender. We should also mention that Arizona is at home and they, too, are a top puck possession team. Arizona a dog here is bordering on absurd. Two full units on the three-way here too.
