10:05 PM EST. The Blackhawks are a somewhat surprising 6-3-3 to open the year but there are lots of concerns. Only four teams in the NHL are allowing more scoring chances per game than the Blackhawks, which makes them too big a risk as road chalk. In a 6-3 loss at Tampa just nine days ago, Chicago allowed 55 shots on net and 43 scoring chances. Its next four games came against the Ducks, Rangers, Blues and Oilers and Chicago went just 2-2 over that span with one of the victories occuring against a Ducks’ squad that is playing worse than every other team in the NHL. While we certainly admire the front end talent on the Blackhawks, they are vulnerable on the backend with a defense that is slower than most and in the modern day NHL, speed matters.

Vancouver is quietly 7-6 to start the season and they’re coming off a nice win over a Minnesota team that came in red-hot. Elias Pettersson back in the Canucks lineup makes a massive difference, as he’s the real deal that is not getting the same hype as some of the other hot-shot talent that keeps emerging. Pettersson truly is as good as any of them and probably better. In fact, when he, Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat are healthy and all playing as they are now, these Canucks are capable of beating any team in the NHL and certainly should not be a dog to a mid-tier team like the Blackhawks. Throw in Vancouver’s deceptively decent group of puck moving D and it gets even better for this live pooch.
