9:35 PM EST. Regulation only. Semyon Varlamov has been absolutely on fire and is the main reason that the Avalanche are 6-1-2 to start the year. Throw in the Avs dynamic top line with outstanding goaltending and it’s easy to figure out why they’re winning but this is not a good situational spot for them and they’re not playing as well as their record indicates.

Colorado has played nine games thus far and ranks 27th in the league in Corsi For % during five-on-five play. They rank 3rd in PDO (Shot % + Sv%), which is a luck driven statistic. After playing at home on Oct 6th against Philadelphia, Colorado traveled to play at Columbus and at Buffalo before returning home for one game. Subsequently, the Avs traveled to New York, New Jersey, Carolina and Philadelphia before returning home for this one. Therefore, since October 6 and covering the past 18 days, the Avs have had to travel to every single game including this one. That’s eight games straight of traveling and we’re suggesting Colorado takes a bit of a breather here or that there's the distinct possibility that they’re flat as can be.

The Lightning have great goaltending too but unlike the Avs, they are a possession beast, ranking 6th in the league in Corsi For % and 3rd in the league in High Danger Corsi For %. The bottom line here is that the Avs are very likely going to have to get lucky to win while the Bolts are likely going to have to get unlucky to lose.

Note: There is always the possibility that we'll be adding some late add-ons to our slate of games after dinner and we’ll be sure to tweet them out if/when we do.
