NHL 2018/19. This season our approach is going to be a little different than regular readers are accustomed to. Whenever we’re playing an underdog, the bet will be split into two parts. We’re playing the underdog -½ +money for 1 unit and we’ll also play them with OT included for 1 unit. The take-backs are so high and offer so much value that over time, playing this way will benefit us.

7:35 PM EST. The Canadiens stock was very low to start the year but it has increased significantly after they’ve posted some nice results early on. Montreal now sits at 2-1-1 after beating the Penguins twice and also taking the Maple Leafs to OT. Meanwhile, Detroit’s stock was also very low coming into the year and its dropped even lower, as the Red Wings are one of only two teams without a victory so far. Detroit has played five games and it is 0-3-2, thus, as a direct result of those aforementioned returns, we now get the Red Wings at a pretty sweet price.

Montreal has played better than anyone expected but there is a flu-bug running through the locker room and it appears as though both Carey Price and Andrew Shaw will be sitting this one out. Price missed Saturday’s game in favor of Antti Niemi but Niemi is a goaltender that is pure fade material when he’s priced in this range. Furthermore, Montreal’s two wins came against a Pittsburgh team with weak goaltending and that is giving up an alarming number of high danger scoring chances. We like the Habs this year as an undervalued entity but that’s not the case here at all. For at least this one game, they are overpriced and we have to try and capitalize.

There are some other moving parts too. You’re likely aware that Detroit is very banged up on the back-end with as many as four regular defensemen out, which makes the Canadiens a little more attractive than they already were but we don’t care. You see, those four D-men are not front line NHL talent and all it does is open up the door for some talented youngsters learning on the go. Detroit has not been as bad as their record indicates either. In its 4-2 opening season loss in L.A., they outshot the Kings, 38-25 and also created more scoring chances. The Red Wings had a 2-1 lead in Anaheim late in the third period but eventually lost 3-2 in OT. They played nose-to-nose with the Maple Leafs for two periods before losing 5-3 but two days later they were blasted in Boston, 8-2. Detroit very likely gets D Dennis Cholowski back tonight along with F Martin Frk. The Red Wings are in rebuild mode but they have speed, youth and talent and they’re going to pull some nice upsets this year and this is one distinct possibility where that may occur.

Therefore:

OT included - Detroit +140 for 1 unit.

Regulation only Detroit -½ + 220 for 1 unit.

Also, just like in baseball and every sport, there is a great chance will be adding a bunch of late add-ons to our slate of games after dinner and we’ll be sure to tweet them out when we do.
