7:05 PM EST. OT included. The Hurricanes have disappointed again this season, but it's not because they lack quality players on the ice. The problem this year, as it is every year, starts between the pipes. When the 'Canes plucked Scott Darling from Chicago before free agency began it was treated as a coup by the pundits. Instead, Darling turned out to be an oversized sieve and Carolina was once again forced to lean on veteran Cam Ward, who would be out of the league if the 'Canes didn't keep him on the payroll. Carolina has an exceptional collection of skaters so when they are taking back a price, as they are tonight, we can overlook their deficiency in net. They can skate with and beat anyone.

The Flyers failed to punch their ticket to the postseason after falling 5-4 to the Islanders on Tuesday night. While Philly's chances to get in are still quite high (90.5%) nothing is guaranteed. The Flyers might be gripping their sticks a little tighter tonight, as they are down to just two chances to seal the deal with games against the Hurricanes and Rangers on deck. Philly was riding an eight-game point streak, but we've seen it happen many times before. A team gets on a roll, but the losses pile up after that first defeat drops. We faded the Flyers in that game against the Islanders because their porous goaltending cannot be trusted to spot a price, especially on the road. Nothing we saw in Brooklyn changes that fact. Even the returning Brian Elliott will not scare us off this play. In fact, his return to the net in this situation after undergoing core-muscle surgery in February reeks of desperation on Philly's part. Say what you want about the stiffs that took his place, but at least they went 13-7-5. Ring rust is real and Elliott was already stiffer than the Tin Man with a .908 save percentage. Elliott has been high on our fade list for a couple of seasons and we're not going to back off here. If the goaltending matchup is a wash, we get the better team at a massive price that would love to take Philadelphia down with them. Big time overlay.
