9:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The plight of the Flames this season is a story full of disappointments. It’s a story of so much talent and promise with nothing to show for it again. It’s a story of a team that has had the horses to make the playoffs for years but that has yet to find stable goaltending to go along with it. The Flames season is over with their last chance of making any impact occurring last game when they had a chance to make life miserable for the fighting-to-make-the-playoffs Kings. Calgary lost 3-0. After playing two in a row and four of their last five on the road, the Flames will now return home to an unhappy fan base that will probably be in a foul mood and may even boo them off the ice.

After this one, Calgary has games left against Edmonton, Arizona, Winnipeg and Vegas. In other words, they have five meaningless games against zero teams fighting for the playoffs. They played hard against Los Angeles last game out because they wanted to ruin L.A.’s chances of making the playoffs so if they had any intensity left, it was likely used up in that game. There has been a lot of bad blood between L.A. and Calgary over the years and you can be assured that Calgary wanted that game badly. Playing without Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, T.J. Brodie, Matthew Tkachuk and Kris Versteeg against a team they have no scores to settle with, Calgary appears to be in big trouble here. Furthermore, the Flames have been shutout in three of their last six games and have a mere three goals COMBINED over their last five games. The Flames figure to show up completely unenergized here while Columbus scored seven goals in their last game and are one of the hottest teams in the NHL. ‘Nuff said.
