9:00 PM EST. OT included. We’re not going to go into a lot of detail here, as we get back to fading teams coming off its mandatory break that are playing teams that aren’t. It's not easy for players to check back in mentally after a few days off in sunny climes, to think about checking assignments and other parts of a game plan. There is not only the physical rink rust to shake off, but emotions have to be returned to heightened levels. We have seen three teams’ struggle upon returning to play teams’ not off the break (not to mention a slew last year) and have decided to continue that fade. On Saturday, the Oilers defeated Vegas coming off the break and San Jose (coming off its break) needed OT to beat Arizona, 5-4.
Coming off its break last season, the Preds lost 5-2 to the Wild with Pekka Rinne in goal. Teams’ coming off the break have been flat, especially in the first period, which bodes very well for Vegas here. The Golden Knights own an 18-1-0 record when scoring the first goal of the game and their .947 win percentage when recording the opening mark leads the NHL. The team's lone regulation loss after scoring first was at the New York Islanders way back in October. It also does not hurt that Flip Forsberg remains out and it appears as though Victor Arvidsson is going to miss some time too after being injured in practice yesterday. We’ve stated on several occasions that the numbers do not support Nashville’s strong record and hopefully that combined with a few days off results in a loss here.
