Washington +6 over Philadelphia

1:00 PM EST. We’re going to discuss another cardinal sin made by bettors in every sport on a daily basis. It’s called zig-zagging and it's something one should avoid. It applies to this game too. Zig-zagging is when one bets on a team one week, watches the team they bet on get steamrolled, and because of what they just witnessed, will bet against that same team the following week. Philadelphia is a great example of it this week.

Philadelphia played on Monday night against the Vikings. The Eagles were heavily faded in the market but they absolutely dominated the Vikings from start to finish. If Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was under the radar, he’s not under it anymore after back-to-back very impressive showings. Hurts played better than he ever had in Philadelphia’s dismantling of the Vikings on Monday night. He threw for 333 yards and one TD on the Vikings and ran for 57 yards and two more touchdowns. Because Buffalo was destroying Tennessee in the other nationally televised game, most viewers switched over to watch Philadelphia destroy the Vikes, thus setting off the zig-zag theory. The theory is that those betting against Philadelphia last week, will now switch gears based on what they saw on Monday, and bet Philadelphia to cover this week. It’s one of our “cardinal sins’ of wagering and it's a bad strategy.

Meanwhile, the Commanders' stock is down. They beat the Jags in Week 1 but pretty it was not, as they had to rally from eight down in the final quarter to win it. Last week, the Commanders fell behind again, this time by a larger margin than in Week 2. It was 22-0 before the Redskins/Football Team/Commanders woke up but let us ask you this. Let’s assume for a moment that Philadelphia won in a competitive game last week while Washington did the same or even lost in a competitive game. What would this line be? Philadelphia -3, 3½ or -4? This is a clear overreaction at work.

Lost in all of this is that Carson Wentz has been great. He posted 313 yards and four touchdowns against the visiting Jaguars and then 337 yards and three more scores in Detroit but it is Jalen Hurts that is getting all the press this week and we’ll now use all of the above to take back more points than we should be.
