Buffalo -7 -105 over MIAMI

1:00 PM EST. The NFL is a funny league in that what you thought you knew a month ago means nothing today. Just look at the Dolphins. They were written off as tankers with their eyes on the first pick in April's draft. Now, we've heard from more than one pundit that this is a totally different team since coming off their bye in Week 5. First, they lost by just one against the Redskins and were a two point conversion away from the victory in Week 6. Then, in Week 7 as a 17-point pooch up in Buffalo, the Fish had a lead after three quarters before losing but they had an easy cover. Miami took a two-touchdown lead on Monday Night Football in Pittsburgh before imploding and then it won back-to-back games over the Jets and Colts while totally hurting its chances for the top pick that this market thought they coveted so much after the first month. This run of "quality" play now has the Fish taking back a much smaller price to the visiting Bills than they would have otherwise. It's not unreasonable to think that Buffalo would have been double digit chalk here if the Dolphins got whacked by the Brian Hoyer-led Colts, as oddsmakers suggested they would. Was just a short time ago that Buffalo was -17 over Miami and now they’re almost a third of that price. We never thought we’d be discussing selling Miami’s stock when it is high but that is actually the case here.

Even though they are 6-3, the Bills are not a team that the market is accustomed to spotting road points with. Buffalo has been a visiting favorite just once this season and that was Week 2 at the Giants in a game they won 28-14. Last week, the Bills lost in Cleveland, but they had a chance to tie the game late, but the usually reliable Steve Hauschka missed a 53-yard attempt. While that one hurt, his first missed kick from 34 yards out right before the half was a momentum killer. The Bills have been criticized for feasting on weak competition like Washington, Cincinnati, both New York squads and of course the Fish, but they also played the might Patriots as hard as anybody (Ravens excluded) and had a legit shot to knock off New England in Week 4. Buffalo is likely short priced here and the only thing stopping us from pulling the trigger is that +6½ is normally a great "dog" number that cashes more often than not.
