New Orleans +4 +105 over SEATTLE

4:25 PM EST. You may heard the term "buying points" because the books encourage you to do so but did you know you can sell points too? In any case, we could take +5 points here with the Saints and lay the traditional 10-cent vig but we're going to sell a point and bring the number down to +4 while taking back a small tag.

At the time of this first posting on Friday, Saints coach Sean Payton had not and does not plan to name a starting quarterback for this contest in Seattle until he absolutely has to. Star pivot Drew Brees left last week's game in Los Angeles with an injured hand, which he has had since he had surgery on it and will miss at least six weeks. The Saints have two quarterbacks on the roster. $7-million man Teddy Bridgewater and utility man Taysom Hill, who the Saints have deployed in multiple game situations already this season. Payton may be using some gamesmanship when it comes to showing his cards here in Week 3, but we have little doubt that Bridgewater will get the bulk of the snaps based on his salary alone. The market is down on Teddy B for a couple of reasons, the first of which was his poor performance in the Saints Week 17 loss to injury-riddled Carolina. Nevermind that New Orleans had already secured its playoff position and sat down anyone of significance. The second and most recent of course was his less than impressive relief appearance against the Rams. However, the Saints played that game like they were in shock after Brees left the field. With a week to deal with the reality that they'll have to forge on without him shouldn't have much of an impact other than to inflate this line. Brees should be back too, on the sidelines that is, which could be motivating for his teammates to keep this train on the track until he’s ready to take snaps.

The Seahawks are 2-0 but you can color us unimpressed. Their Week 1 victory over the Bengals was arguably the most misleading score of the opening slate of games and a 28-26 win over the Roethlisberger-less Steelers might be even less inspiring. This week it appears that Seattle is getting a gift from the football gods, but trust us when we tell you that the Seachickens are very beatable. Their defense made Andy Dalton look like an All-Pro. When Mason Rudolph came in, he didn't look out of place either and kept his team in the game. Maybe great things are on the horizon for the former Pitt star, but we suspect the Seattle defense greatly aided in his Week 2 performance. To an unsuspecting market, this might look like a short price on the Seahawks with the Saints seemingly in shambles but beware. One of these teams is a legit Super Bowl contender without its star quarterback, while the other would be picking in the top 10 of the upcoming draft if not for theirs. We believe the "next man up" philosophy applies here regardless of who's behind center for the Saints. Who Dat? Who cares. Upset alert.
