8:20 PM EST. The 49ers appeared to be the easiest bet on the board last Sunday with a date in the desert and for 50 minutes of game action, it looked like they were going to cash all tickets, as the Cardinals couldn't move the ball two yards. However, things can change quickly in the NFL and the San Francisco defense couldn't make a stop when it needed to. Arizona would score two fourth-quarter touchdowns including one with just 34 seconds to go to steal the win (18-15), leaving the 'Niners and their many backers with nothing but heartache.

Most of the headlines for the 49ers surround the status of quarterback C.J. Beathard, who didn't practice on Tuesday because of a sore wrist on this throwing hand. His injury is another reason why these Thursday games are so brutal for these teams and players. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters if this game were being played on Sunday, his quarterback would be, "good, but it's going to be a test for Thursday and we probably won't know until then." Shanahan said he'd roll with Nick Mullens if Beathard couldn't play and the 49ers also picked up Tom Savage, who was not shockingly available. Sirius NFL Radio reported that if Savage were to see action tonight, the 49ers offensive playbook would be "very limited."

Now, forget all that drama, as the only thing that matters here is that the books didn't blink when they posted the 'Niners as -3½-point home favorites. Even before the Beatherd injury news, the market pounced on that very enticing number after Derek Carr looked like his former self-last Sunday with an eye-popping 136.6 quarterback rating and four majors to his credit. It was a huge performance for Carr, as the Raiders tried to quiet the noise about their tanking and all of the negative press surrounding their crying QB losing the locker room. If you bought low on Carr in DFS, good play, but that's about all those stats are good for. The Raiders still lost the game and did not cover because they have no defense. Now back to this line, as Raiders backers gobbled up that "hook" on a key number like three and drove that line right to -2½, where the 49ers are still favored. Now, the books did not pull this game off the board or react in any way to the Beathard injury news, which means they either know he's okay or they don't care. Based on recent market perception, this is a huge quarterback mismatch regardless of who the 49ers start and we expect the Raider money to continue to pour in. If Beathard is officially ruled out, we could see a big move in the Raiders direction, but even if he's confirmed, we expect to get a better number on the 49ers closer to kick-off. We'll wait and update this play around dinner time but whether we play it or not, the 49ers come recommended here. We are likely passing on this game but the market reaction may force us to step in.
