3:30 PM EST. The College Football Playoff rankings came out this week and we all know that Tennessee was ranked #1 while Georgia was ranked #3. We all know that Tennessee’s QB Hendon Hooker is the front-runner for this year’s Heisman. We also know that this game is the marquee game of the week that will be bet on and watched by millions. Now ask yourself if you think the oddsmakers made a bad line here? If the answer to that question is yes, then you are in agreement with millions of others that cannot wait to get down on the Vols.

We don’t have to lay it out for you. It seems like the oddsmakers seem hellbent on discounting the Vols, making them a sizable underdog between the hedges despite a résumé that includes wins vs. five ranked teams, including a toppling of then top-rated Alabama. The Vols are undefeated. They’re ranked #1 in the country and the oddsmakers are throwing them 9 points. Can you imagine for a second, #1 Alabama or #1 Georgia or #1 Ohio State or #1 Clemson, at any time over the past two decades taking back this many points in a showdown? It’s absurd and if you think the books are giving away money, then you’re not paying attention.

What are we going to do? Break down the X’s and O’s for you? You can get that at 4 million websites. Do you really think we want to give the Vols and their explosive offense 9 points? Hell, if Tennessee scores first, we’re down 16 points to a team that routinely puts up 40 without breaking a sweat. We are very aware of everything the Vols are capable of and everything they have done.

We don’t break down X’s and O’s, nor do we make predictions. If we did, we’d tell you all about Tennessee’s passing game versus the Dawgs running attack and how Tennessee doesn’t have to stretch the field to emerge victorious but we’ll leave that to the monotone Kirk Herbstreit. No my friends, we’ll explain that part of our handicapping includes being able to recognize something that looks out of whack and giving the most hyped up team in the country 9 points looks completely out of whack and we therefore have to side with the team the books do not want us on. This line is screaming out that the Vols are not what they appear to be and if the oddsmakers are wrong, it’s going to cost the books millions.
