12:00 PM EST. A game like this while backing a blue blood at a big price is rarely in our wheelhouse but there are exceptions to every rule and we’ll make one here. What we’re seeing is the entire touting universe pimping the Spartans and that’s the first big red flag.

We will reiterate that Michigan State has been one of this year’s “Little Engines That Could”. Given the fact Michigan State has only lost one game this year by 11 points and gone 7-1-2 against the number on the season, this number seems absolutely ludicrous to an unsuspecting market, It is a rare day when the 7th ranked team in the country is being offered such a big carrot. Generally speaking, with #4 playing #7, we would expect this number to be inside a touchdown but the enhanced points make this look like the “sucker bet” of the weekend. Don’t bite.

The touts will be quick to point out that the Buckeyes are 0-7 against the spread in the previous seven years in the week before their clash with Michigan. OSU has the Wolverines on deck next week. However, what they fail to recognize is that this scenario is entirely different. You see, Ohio State isn’t laying inflated points to some cupcake on the road who has nothing to lose in the week before “The Game”. No, the Buckeyes will be taking this game very seriously, as if they lose here, they can lose the B1G potentially and certainly any hope of a College Football Playoff berth. If this should occur, then “The Game” next week is nothing more than a glorified exhibition in light of Ohio State’s ultimate goals. Let’s call this what it is: a playoff game.

The Buckeyes have the benefit of playing this playoff game in The Horseshoe with the best offense in the nation (550.3 total yards per game) against the worst pass defense in the FBS (State ranks 130th overall). Make no mistake, Ohio State knows who Michigan State is and we are hard-pressed to believe that the Bucks will take their foot off the gas once they are on top of Sparty and the number here says that the oddsmakers expect a similar scenario to unfold.
