MISSOURI +100 over South Carolina

Faurot Field – Columbia, MO

Streaming: SEC Network

4:00 PM EST. First up is Missouri, who generated their first cover of 2021 last week and cashing in for the first time since November 28th of last year. The Tigers had not cashed in 11 straight games. This in itself suggests that there is still plenty of equity on Missouri, as the market has a ways to go before it catches up to them. However, Missouri’s cover came against the #1 team in the country by way of Georgia playing what it described to paraphrase as a “C-Game”. Still, on paper, it sure as fuck doesn’t look like a cover, as Mizzou lost 43-6 after closing as a 40-point pooch.

Missouri goes from being a 40-point underdog to a near pick-em and while that is something we usually fade, there are exceptions to almost every betting rule. Just to recap, Mizzou lost by 37 last week and has one cover in an entire calendar year while South Carolina is coming off an impressive showing last week when they crushed the Florida Gators as a +20½-point underdog in a 40-17 rout. Say what? Who the fuck is betting Mizzou today? We repeat, who the fuck is betting Mizzou today? We promise you it ain’t Jesse Schule, Sean Murphy, Matt Fargo or Marc Lawrence or any of the other cockroaches at Covers.

The market has spoken, as it flipped South Carolina from a one-point dog to a one-point favorite and we cannot emphasize enough that it was not an oversight by the books. The market reacts to recent results and we urge the opposite.

South Carolina caught Florida at the right time. The Gamecocks were at home with a juiced fan base looking for some semblance of a signature win under first-year Head Coach Shane Beamer and they got it when Florida came into the game in body and not spirit. You see, the Gators lost their “Super Bowl” the week before when they faced their arch nemesis Georgia in Jacksonville and saw a close 3-0 game accelerate into a 24-0 deficit in a matter of minutes. The Gators were subsequently routed by their arch rival 34-7. The result crushed all of Florida’s hopes while stirring up disarray in the UF camp. USC took advantage by bringing its A-game which trumped Florida’s D-game.

On the flipside, Mizzou travelled to Athens and faced off with the nation’s top team but took away a lot of positives despite the lop-sided result. The Tigers’ were able to disrupt the Dawgs’ run game at times and they managed to find some rhythm in some of their offensive efforts in a hostile environment even if they couldn’t find the end zone against a historic defense. While this may not count for much at first-glance, it will pay dividends, as they are back home against a South Carolina offense that has struggled to find an identity overall this season and who boast a far less formidable defense compared to Georgia. We also have the benefit of getting the Tigers in a very good spot, as they are playing a team that may be bringing its “C” game after basking in the glory of last week’s result
