WASHINGTON -7.5 over Cal

Husky Stadium – Seattle, WA

9:30 PM ET. The Golden Bears have a reputation for being a “good” road team when taking back points, and they backed that up in their game at TCU, where they nearly upended the Horned Frogs as a double-digit dog. California is 10-1 against the spread in its last 11 as a road pooch, and that is likely enough to get eyes from this market. The Golden Bears began the season with little fanfare in the Pac 12, but their stock is on the rise, as they become known as a “tough out.” Meanwhile, their opposition has tripped all over itself out of the gate.

Washington has been one of the biggest disappointments in the early going, posting just a 1-2 record. Not suitable for a preseason Pac 12 favorite. A 13-7 loss to Montana as -22½-point chalk set the tone to start the year. The Huskies chased that with a 31-10 waffling at Michigan. They finally got off the schneid last week in a 52-3 drubbing of Arkansas State, but beating on some Sun Belt fodder won’t likely sway market perception that the Huskies are not to be trusted spotting a number. What of this -7½ point opening spread? We know that it’s a favorite number, as that hook on a converted touchdown makes a team that “does well” on the road like Cal very appealing to the market. It bit. However, it is the Huskies who are being sold short. We now get a powerhouse on its home field at a discount. Underlay.
