BUFFALO +14 +101 over Coastal Carolina

University at Buffalo Stadium - Buffalo, NY

Streaming: ESPN 2

12:00 PM EST. Coastal Carolina's rise to national prominence from the ashes of the pandemic fuelled 2020 season has not gone unnoticed in this market. It burst onto the scene last season after a win over then #21 Louisville. That launched the Chanticleers into the polls for the first time in school history.

In 2021 it appears that coach Jamey Chadwell picked up right where he left off after an 11-1 campaign last year, as the Chanticleers are 2-0  and again ranked (#18), which has them getting a lot of looks here. While the undefeated start is nice, Coastal has whacked a pair of really bad football teams. Sure they covered spreads of 26½ and 32 against Kansas and Citadel respectfully, but forgive us for not getting excited about those wins. Last week against Kansas, the Chanticleers stumbled out of the gate with a slow start and were actually down after the first quarter. Ultimately, they needed a late fourth quarter score just to cover the large spread by a half point. The market sees a team that is rolling and cashing tickets while we see a team that is feasting on weak, unranked, mid-major competition. There is a price to pay for scheduling games against dregs.

Buffalo is taking back a ridiculous pile of points here on its home turf and we’ll attempt to take advantage. The Bulls stock is low after getting brutalized on the road at Nebraska, 28-3, as a 13½ point pooch, but this has been one of the most consistent performers in the MAC since 2017, racking up a league high 31 wins in that time. The foundation for perennial success in that conference has been set. As bad as that lopsided result at Nebraska looked, there were some positives for the Bulls. They were able to piece together some nice, long drives, running more plays (83) than Nebraska (61). With that, Buffalo also won the time of possession and had just as many first downs (19). The problem for Buffalo was finishing those drives with points on the board. We’ll not panic, as a correction to the good is forthcoming. That blowout has left Buffalo undervalued here at home, where they will be taking back a similar price as they were on the road last week. That can’t be, as it’s a significant number to stash in its back pocket for a team that has lost just two of its last 18 home games. A signature win for the Bulls against a ranked invader is not out of the question here, but it would be most prudent to snap up these inflated points and not look back.
