SYRACUSE +125 over Liberty
12:00 PM EST. Last week, Syracuse was dubbed by some “experts” as the ‘Lock of the Week’ when it opened as a one-point dog at home against a winless Duke side. Syracuse emerged very quickly as a public underdog and much to the chagrin of the market that was behind the Orange, Duke would get its first win of the season by a considerable margin, defeating ‘Cuse 38-24. That now creates this zig-zag opportunity, not to mention a sell high one on Liberty, Liberty, Liberty.
Liberty steps into this contest without a loss on the season. As a 17-point favorite last week versus UL Monroe, Liberty steamrolled them 40-7. The Warhawks were bet down last week after Liberty failed to come in as a 33-point choice the week prior when it hosted FCS North Alabama and won 28-7.
The tale of the tape advises us that a play on Liberty could bode a lot of hazards, as the Flames 4-0 mark is very misleading. The list of the Liberty assailed features Western Kentucky (whose only win this season is a three-point victory against Middle Tennessee State), the aforementioned FCS North Alabama, Florida International (a narrow two-point win it could have just easily lost), and UL Monroe (a team that has not won a game yet this season). This contest is a step-up in opposition for the Flames and we don’t trust they have any business laying road points in this scenario.
On the contrary, though Syracuse is 1-3, their remaining losses came on the road against the present #5 team in America, North Carolina and at a ranked Pitt. Syracuse won outright at home as a 7.5-point underdog against an improved Georgia Tech team when it dominated the Jackets 37-20. Quite frankly, the Orange will be reviled by the fact they are an underdog at home to a mid-major opponent and we trust they will use the venue as an opportunity to set the record straight. Though the records suggest otherwise, we are getting the better battle-tested team at the better price. Sign us up for that every time.
