Eastern Michigan +180 over NIU

7:30 PM EST. This is the worst year we can remember for the MAC since the league was promoted from the "added games" list to the main Vegas rotation back in the days of the California Raisin Bowl tie-in. The MAC East is as bad a division as you'll see, and the winner of the West will probably be a monster favorite in the title game. Both NIU and EMU are in the West with EMU sitting at the bottom at 2-4. Just above them at 3-3 are the Huskies of Northern Illinois but it means jack.

Last week on MAC Wednesday, NIU was an underdog at Toledo. The market was heavily tilted against NIU and after three quarters, the market went to bed as NIU was up by three TD’s going to the fourth quarter. As it turns out, the Rockets tied it and probably should have won it but all this market sees and knows is that NIU beat Toledo last week. The ol’ zig-zag theory is in play now, as it is NIU that’s taking a good portion of the action here. When Toledo finally woke up last week, they made the Huskies look like a high school team and it’s not the first time NIU had a disturbing game, quarter or half.

Look, the MAC West is a toss-up. The last place Eagles can compete with the first place Broncos or the second place Chips. They Eagles already beat Western Michigan by 7 a couple of weeks back, they also beat Illinois earlier this year and there is no question that they’re capable of beating this soft host as well. Incidentally, EMU played on MAC Tuesday last week and barely broke a sweat against Akron while NIU fought tooth and nail to get by Toledo that required a game winning FG kick with 41 seconds remaining. An extra days rest this time of year doesn’t hurt either. EMU outright is the call.
