#184 TEXAS -7 -108 over Kansas St - Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium – Austin, TX

3:30 PM EST. All of the ingredients were there for Kansas State to stub its toe in a notorious letdown spot last week as it headed into its battle with Kansas in the Sunflower State Showdown. The Wildcats had pulled off a marquee upset of a then #5 ranked Oklahoma the week before on October 26th and KSU would follow-up opening at a notorious underdog friendly number (-6.5) when it ventured cross-state to upset-minded Kansas. Despite the bad spot, the Wildcats got their backers to the window in a 38-10 mauling of the Jayhawks. One of the toughest things to do is come right back on a team you not only back last week but one that got whacked.

It is evident that the College Football Playoff Committee was very much impressed with Kansas State’s win over Oklahoma. K-State was polled respectively at #22 in the Coaches Poll and #20 in the AP Poll but the CFP Committee elevated the Wabash Cannonballs all the way to #16 in their rankings. On the flipside, this same panel of experts shunted Texas, as the Longhorns find themselves unranked and unmentioned despite boding two of their three losses on the year to an undefeated Oklahoma and the top team presently in the AP Poll, LSU. Regardless of the rankings, the Longhorns opened as mid-range chalk this week at home against their ranked counterparts. The market appears to salivating at the sight of K-State taking back a converted TD. We urge all those considering the Wildcats to think twice.

We often talk about value being the number one priority in choosing sides but there is another concept we adhere to, which is being able to recognize something that looks too good to be true. Is there true value spotting -7 points to the Wildcats? No, of course not but in this case, we’re not seeking value. We have recognized “a sucker bet”. It is highly unlikely that the bookmakers made a blunder here in a high-profile game that features a ranked opponent and one of America’s blue-blood programs in Texas and it prompts us to move in hard.
