7:00 PM EST. UAB is coming off a 26-23 OT win over one-time Conference USA overlord, Southern Miss so one can only imagine how proud and powerful the Blazers felt after that win. Not only did the Blazers win to run its record to 9-1 (7-0 in the conference) but for the first time (perhaps ever), UAB woke up on Monday morning to find themselves in the polls, coming in as the 25th ranked team in the country. Now a 9-1 ranked team is taking back massive lumber against a 6-4 team and that has much of this market licking their chops. All of a sudden and out of nowhere, this UAB squad is on the national landscape and what usually follows these type of programs after a sugar rush is a sugar crash.

The UAB Blazers played Savannah St and Coastal Carolina to open the year and got smoked, 47-24 by the latter. They haven’t lost since with victories over Tulane, Charlotte, Louisiana Tech, Rice, North Texas, UTEP, Texas-San Antonio and Southern Miss. That is a marshmallow feast by any standard and now they’ll play its most difficult opponent of the year and it’s not even remotely close.

The Aggies are by far the best 6-4 team in America and one again proves that the rankings mean absolutely jack. The Aggies are better than at least 10 of the top-25 ranked teams. A&M’s losses were at home against Clemson and on the road at Alabama, Mississippi State and Auburn. Texas A&M is 5-0 ATS at home and they outgained Clemson by 88 yards. Texas A&M has taken on the 12th-toughest schedule in college football by while UAB has faced the No. 127-rated schedule. The Aggies have statistically dominated some damn good teams this year, holding them to 102 yards per game below their season averages while gaining 74 yards per game above what their opponents usually allow, but let Auburn off the hook. The only way they don’t cover is if they are unfocused but UAB’s record and ranking likely has them focused enough to show the Blazers what a real college football team looks like.
