9:00 PM EST. While it is more likely that the market will be more focused in the Friday Night “A” game between Memphis and SMU, this one caught our attention more. Trust us when we tell you that we looked hard at SMU tonight getting 7½-points but backed off because it looks too easy. We actually have no idea what warrants Memphis being such a big price on the road after they clinched a postseason berth last week but that’s not our concern. We’re stepping into Friday’s “B” game instead as one of the better situational spots of the season.

New Mexico is not a good football team so we’re not going to sugarcoat this and say they have underachieved because they have not. At 3-7 with wins over Incarnate Word, New Mexico State and UNLV, the Lobos are right where projections had them but this game often brings out the best in the Lobos because it’s their “Super Bowl”. Last year, as a 16-point dog in Boise, the Lobos lost 28-14. As a 31-point dog at home two seasons ago, New Mexico won outright, 31-24. That aside, the Lobos will be ready while the Broncos are in about the worst position possible here.

It's the oldest trap in the book, but the "sandwich game" still has bite and this one fits the bill big time. This is a classic case of a no-name opponent on the schedule between two big games. The letdown and the lookahead rolled into one and it remains a common cause of a C-game, because there are so many ways for it to go wrong for the chalk. The first big game can be taxing, thrilling, deflating or any other thing that big games often are and that fits too, as Boise was a three-point home dog to Fresno State last week and rallied from 14 down in the fourth quarter to a euphoric win. The second big game is one that can be anticipated in several different distracting ways and that’s precisely what the Broncs have on deck next week in a showdown with Utah State back on the blue turf. It’s a massive game to be sure and then there's the meat of the sandwich itself: never feared, perpetually overlooked, disrespected and written off and that fits the Lobos. We have so many ways to cover this game while the Broncos have so many ways not to (letdown, lookahead, travel, backdoor, frontdoor).
