12:30 PM EST. For Virginia, its win last week over Miami felt more like a conference championship celebration victory than it did an early regular season victory. From the tailgating party to the packed house to four hours of intense football and screaming fans, the Cavaliers had something to prove to all their doubters. In the end, the Cavs would grind out a 16-13 victory and take down the #16 ranked team in the country and college football royalty in the process. One has to be reminded from time to time that these are not pros. These are college kids playing in front of 60,000 fans at home and millions more on TV with ESPN cameras everywhere. A massive win for college kids is not the same as it is in the pros, like the Colts beating the Patriots for instance. The propensity for a letdown is much higher among emotionally charged kids and that absolutely comes into play here. What this market overlooks is how bad Virginia looked on the road at North Carolina two weeks ago and it completely forgot that the Cavs lost to the Hoosiers at Indiana as well. Two of Virginia’s four wins occurred against Richmond and Ohio and they needed to score a bunch to get by the latter, as the Bobcats put up 31.

Duke has an impressive performance portfolio with wins of two scores or more at Baylor, at Northwestern, against Army and at Georgia Tech last week. Daniel Jones threw three touchdown passes last weekend in the win over Georgia Tech so it appears as though he’s fully recovered from an earlier injury. Jones is playing like he was never injured. He's not shown any instances of happy feet when pressure arrives nor has he shied away from contact while running the ball. He's completed 40 of 62 passes (65 percent) with four touchdowns since he returned. Duke's athleticism and experience at linebacker with Ben Humphreys and Joe Giles-Harris gives the Blue Devils a massive advantage here. They combined for 26 tackles at Georgia Tech but this Duke squad as a whole is very much under the radar because they are considered a basketball school.

Finally, the market will likely put some emphasis on Virginia beating Duke the past three times the teams have met in each of the past three seasons. Trust us when we suggest that Duke was the better team all three games. You see, the Blue Devils turned it over 11 times in those three contests so there will be a big emphasis by the coaching staff to HOLD ON TO THE DAMN FOOTBALL! Last week, in that upset win over Miami, UVa intercepted three passes otherwise they were going down in that one too. Oddsmakers and us agree that this fight comes at a bad time for the inferior squad and Duke takes three years of frustration and mistakes out on this hated rival today.
