Gotta say this line caught our attention, as Nevada getting seven points looks mighty appetizing considering all five starters return from last year’s roster, which ushered in a star-studded backcourt tandem in Grant Sherfield and Desmond Cambridge. Cambridge transformed from a highlight reel enigma to a reliably efficient scorer in the blink of an eye last season, quelling all concerns about his ability to make the leap from the Ivies. Meanwhile, Sherfield went nuclear in his first season out west, finally free of the backcourt logjam at Wichita State. Nevada was projected to be in the upper echelon of the Mountain West this year by every publication south of Canada.  The hype is warranted too, as Sherfield and Cambridge are a premier 1-2 punch on the perimeter. 

San Francisco is one of the most underappreciated (undervalued) teams in the country that nobody really knows about. USF has the top-end talent, shooting, size, and coaching to compete at the top of the WCC this season. This conference has sent three teams to the Dance before, and the Dons are a legitimate threat to earn an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. If you watched what BYU did to Oregon on Tuesday night, you’ll get an idea of how tough the West Coast Conference is. 

We cannot overemphasize how tough it is for most to be giving a team like Nevada seven points from a team like the Dons but we’re strongly urging you to swallow the points. As it turns out, Nevada looks very beatable with a top-heavy lineup, no depth and frankly, just two players that look like they belong. It’s usually wise not to overreact to a game or two but in Nevada’s case, it is three games of the same thing. No defense, two guys doing all the scoring, lots of sloppiness and bad decisions. Meanwhile, San Fran looks sharp and polished and ready to annihilate this number.
