In the Atlantic Sun conference, we cannot overstate enough the discrepancy in talent from the top of the conference to the bottom. North Florida is in first by a half game over Liberty but that’s not going to last long. Liberty is almost a shoo-in to win the conference tourney and earn an automatic bid to the Dance. It seriously cannot go any other way.

Last season the Flames upset No. 5 seed Mississippi State due in large part to a 30-point, 62.5% field goal rate game from Caleb Homesley. Now he and big man Scottie James have Liberty flying toward the tournament again. BPI, which adjusts for quality of opponent, considers the Flames the 31st-best defensive team in the nation. KenPom has them ranked as the 60th best team in the country. Liberty is 23-5 overall. They beat a really good Akron team by 13 and lost to LSU by 17. Although they have a showdown with North Florida up next, it’s not for another five days. This is one of the biggest mismatches on the board but it’s not priced like it. Incidentally, Tech is 7-17 and ranks 306th on KemPom.
