#618 ELON +140 over Delaware

7:00 PM EST. What do you get in a sport with 353 teams? You get mismatches galore, skewed numbers and a boatload of misleading records. Such is the case here with the Blue Hens of Delaware, a team with a nifty 18-7 record to go along with an 8-4 conference mark. Delaware has seven (!) wins of three points or less this year, which could have just as easily translated to an 11-14 overall record and not 18-7. The beautiful thing is that the market couldn’t give a f**k about that. It sees wins and losses but not how they achieved them. Playing the 321st ranked Strength of Schedule, Delaware has been on the extreme side of good luck to build their misleading record. We’ll now try to take advantage.

Elon has about as much credibility as Joaquin Phoenix does with farmers across the globe. Elon comes in with an ugly 9-17 record and a 5-8 record in the conference. This is a program that has yet to make it to the Dance in their 20 years at this level. Elon also fired their head coach of 10 years after another disappointing season last year and that is one of our main focuses here.

Mike Schrage has been given the reigns of the Phoenix this season after serving as a Director of Basketball Operations for Ole Miss and Duke and serving as an assistant to Johnny Dawkins at Stanford and Chris Holtmann at Butler and Ohio State. We want you to digest that for a moment. Schrage has been a part of some of the best programs in the country for years. He had options and chose this one. Dude knows talent and his early strength appears to be on the recruiting path, as he was able to hang onto a couple potential transfers after the coaching change and bring in a solid four-man class. Elon has won three in a row now. They have also played the 130th Strength of Schedule in the country. The Phoenix played at North Carolina and lost by just 14 and also played Georgia Tech and Michigan as part of their non-conference slate. This is a program showing direction, that is battle tested and that is showing great progress and confidence in the last few games. Under a big slate of games today, this sneaky good play is tucked in behind most of them. Dig deep and one can find great value in these types of games and we’re going to trust that’s the case here. Elon outright.
