Northwestern +10½ -110 over RUTGERS

6:30 PM EST. Northwestern is 1-10 in the conference and 6-15 overall. While Northwestern was projected to be at or near the bottom of the Big-10, one still has to respect HC Chris Collins for bringing consistent talent to a program that for many years was an afterthought in the college basketball world. Northwestern looks like it's going to finish in last place in the Big Ten, but the future in Evanston is bright as long as Collins keeps reeling in and developing the talent. The Wildcats last five games were against #24 Illinois, #17 Maryland, Ohio State, #14 Michigan State and finally Purdue. Although the ‘Cats lost by 29 to MSU they hung around in the other four and came damn close to beating both Purdue and Illinois.

Since Big-10 play began on January 3, the Scarlet Knights have been favored by double digits just one time when they were a 13½-point favorite over Nebraska and were lucky to survive a three-point win. Rutgers is not accustomed to being priced in this range. They have been perennial underdogs in Big-10 play for years and will now take on a completely different role. Don’t think for a second that these players don’t look at the point-spread because they do. The Scarlet Knights will see themselves as a big favorite and it will influence them into thinking it’s an easy win because they are so unaccustomed to the role. Rutgers has big time games on deck versus OSU, Illinois and Michigan and could very easily get caught taking this foe lightly. Incidentally, Rutgers has overachieved this year in a big way too. They were projected to finish at or near the bottom of the Big-10 but they caught some fire and momentum to get themselves ranked for the first time in a very long time. That didn’t last long and now after playing the 297th ranked Strength of Schedule, Rutgers is being asked to win by a significant margin to get to the window. That’s not likely happening on Chris Collins’ watch.
