SAINT MARY'S +6 -110 over Gonzaga

10:00 PM EST. The #2 Bulldogs of Gonzaga need little introduction here, as they have become a perennial powerhouse and the poster child for nearly every mid-major in the nation. The 'Zags are 24-1 and undefeated in the WCC, but this is a two-team conference and they've yet to play St. Mary's this season. Because of that, we put little stock into that 10-0 record against WCC competition. When you add the fact that the Bulldogs played one of the weakest non-conference schedules in America (240-of-353 ranked schools), it's hard not question whether or not the 'Zags are worthy of their place in the polls. Gonzaga has ripped off 17 straight wins, but pounding on LMU, Pacific, San Diego and Portland is not impressive. While Gonzaga beat Loyola Marymount 60-47 on Thursday night, it was outrebounded by the Lions 31-25. For some more perspective on the quality of competition the Bulldogs are facing, they have been favored by double-digits in 13 straight games. That streak, however, ends tonight.

The Gaels live in the 'Zags large shadow, but they are a quality outfit that would get more recognition if they played in a different conference. St. Mary's won but did not cover in a 66-60 triumph at San Diego on Thursday night, but we're willing to bet they had one eye already on this home date with Gonzaga. A tough night shooting was the real reason to blame for the smaller than expected margin of victory, as the Gaels went just 1-of-15 from three-point land. St. Mary's leads the nation in 3-point shooting and so we are willing to bet that it'll be much sharper tonight. This is the biggest game for the Gaels every year and they figure to be live in this spot against a team that has won 15-of-19 meetings between these two schools in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. However, one of those victories for the Gaels came last season in the WCC Tournament, where they downed the 'Zags 60-47 as a 15-point pooch. A similar result is not out of the question here, as the 'Zags have been feasting on cupcakes and come into this one with their stock and their win/loss record bloated.
