Kent State -2 -110 over NORTHERN ILLINOIS

The Huskies of Northern Illinois have enjoyed a recent run of dominance over Kent State and we suspect that those four straight victories, including a 76-69 win by NIU on the Golden Flashes home court just over two and a half weeks ago are going to have an influence on the market in this spot. That victory was the first for the Huskies in their current five-game winning streak as well, which has their stock trending upward. Despite the success, however, NIU sports one of the weakest offenses in the nation, as they rank 254th in offensive efficiency, 277th in effective field goal percentage and 326th in two-point field goal percentage all according to KenPom. On top of that, the Huskies have relied on just three players to do more than 50% of their scoring this season. If you can shut one of them down, you have a good chance of icing these Huskies.

Kent State, on the other hand, specializes in spreading the ball around to put the biscuit in the basket. The Golden Flashes are just outside the top-50 (52) in offensive production and they’re 11-0 when at least four of their players score in double digits. In its last game, Kent State was beaten 62-52 at home to Ball State. The Flashes were a -4-point favourite in that game, which was the sixth time in their last eight games that they failed to cash a ticket. That makes no friends in this market. Those recent results, combined with the Huskies' recent dominance, are not likely to increase Kent State's market appeal here spotting points on the road, but that's what makes them worth a second look. When these two teams played on January 21st, the Flashes were a -9-point choice at home. Since then, these two teams have been headed in opposite directions, yet Kent State is still favoured here on the road. Oddsmakers likely could have made this a pick 'em or even had the Huskies as the chalk at home and not swayed a single bet, yet they did not. Kent State is being short-changed here and they figure to be live after getting their heads pounded in by the Huskies the last two seasons. Line screams to spot the bucket.
