NCAA Tournament - Midwest Regional - BOK Center, Tulsa, OK

7:20 PM EST. The Panthers are the Sun Belt champ and finished 24-9 this season on the strength of their three-point shooting, which is very likely how they’re going to try and win this one. Problem for the Panthers is that this isn’t a Sun Belt team defending. When Georgia State played Creighton they lost by 25. When they played K-State, they lost by 12. This is a team that lost to Texas State, Troy, Coastal Carolina, UL Monroe and when they played Liberty, another tournament team, they lost by 26 (78-52). The Panthers played one team this year from Houston’s AAC conference, which happened to be Tulane, a team that finished 0-18 in conference play and finished the year 4-27. Georgia State won that game by four points. Houston also played Tulane and won 85-50. That would be 35 points. The Panthers don’t have a starter taller than 6-6 and should therefore get very few second chance points unless the ball bounces in their hands off all those missed triples.

There is not a lot of talk surrounding the Cougars, as the market is looking at other sleepers but this team is deep, talented, confident and very dangerous. The Cougars played Cinci three times this year and beat them the first two while only losing to them in the conference final. Houston went 16-2 in a conference that has sent five programs to this event and nearly six, as Wichita State was on the bubble. In its non-conference schedule, Houston beat LSU by six, Oregon by four and Utah State by 10 among others. They went 31-3 overall and while they are probably not underseeded, (#3 seed) they are underpriced. The Cougars are a proud, strong, tough defensive team that is hungry and that should absolutely dominate this game from start to finish and if that's not enough, KenPom has Houston ranked as the 14th best team in America while it has Georgia State ranked 111th. That wide a gap comapres to Tennessee over Colgate but the Vols are a 17½-point choice today and so we'll reiterate that the Cougars come at a bargain today.
