NCAA Tournament - Midwest Regional - BOK Center, Tulsa, OK

9:50 PM EST. Ohio State was as "Jekyll and Hyde" as a program as there was this season after starting the year on a 12-1 run before collapsing for much of the second half to finish at 19-14. Part of the struggle was due to competing in the very tough Big Ten, which played a huge part in the Buckeyes playing the ninth toughest schedule in the nation. That brutal stretch to close out the 2018-19 season has given the critics tons of ammunition, as many have stated that these Buckeyes are here on reputation and not talent. While we lose a couple of our favorite tools when it comes to this wild tournament format, it's important to remember the basics. "Buy low, sell high," and this game fits that to a T.

Iowa State ran through the Big 12 Tournament and polished off Kansas in the championship game to increase its stock and move up the seeding ladder, but before we get too excited, it's important to remember that the Cyclones were the fifth seed and therefore became the lowest seed to win that conference’s championship. Iowa State played a relatively weak non-conference schedule that ranks 210 of the 353 graded programs on KenPom. The Cyclones dropped non-conference games to Arizona and Iowa. An 84-68 win over Illinois is Iowa State's best non-conference victory, which isn't saying much. It's also worth noting that before going on that improbable Big 12 run, the Cyclones had dropped five of their last six games including losses to West Virginia, Texas and TCU, all of which were left out of the Field of 68. Iowa State was a .500 team in its conference and the bulk of their 23 wins were scarfed down at the cupcake buffet. One could argue that without that run to a Big 12 championship, these Cyclones would have been much closer to a bubble team than they might want to admit. Iowa State is the perfect sell high candidate and don’t think for a second that OSU hasn’t heard the “They don’t deserve to be here” narrative. That has the Buckeyes coming in with a chip on their shoulder.
