NCAA Tournament - Midwest Regional - Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, FL

9:40 PM EST. Life as a mid-major is not an easy one and the selection committee did Wofford no favors after making the Terriers a No. 7 seed. It didn't matter that Wofford carries the nation's longest winning streak (20 games) or that it sent 28-win UNC-Greensboro packing in the Southern Conference Championship to crush the Spartans dream at an at-large bid in a game the Terriers didn't need to get in. Wofford was ranked in the Top-25 for the final three weeks of the season, so we're not quite sure why there is such a disconnect between the voters of those polls and the selection committee, but if we dig deep enough, the answer is likely green. You see, the Terriers have zero market presence and they are not the kind of team a network wants to see make a deep run. If Wofford gets past Seton Hall today, it is rewarded with a second-round matchup with Kentucky. We suspect the Terriers, to a man, have to feel disrespected in this situation, but that can be a great motivator.

Seton Hall was on the bubble before the Big East Tournament began, but it made a run to the finals and came up just short in a 74-72 loss to last year's defending champions, Villanova in the final. If not for that quality effort last weekend, the Pirates would be on a bus to the NIT, but they got to 20 wins and did just enough to allow the committee to sneak in another popular program that plays in a big market (New York/New Jersey). Seton Hall is ranked 36 spots lower than the Terriers on KenPom, which suggests that this is a short line. The Pirates have credibility in the market as a perennial tournament participant and they are likely to be a popular upset pick in many brackets, but do not be fooled. The Pirates are the 64th best 10 seed since 2000, among 80 such teams in efficiency rating and they’re getting way too much credit here. Much is being made about Marquette being a one man show with Markus Howard but the Pirates are exactly the same, as they lean heavily on junior guard Myles Powell to do everything. OIf Powell has an off game, the Pirates have no chance and if he has a great game, they can still lose. Wofford is the superior team here and just like it did in the Southern Conference championship, we doubt the disrespected Terriers will leave anything to chance.
