7:00 PM EST. Expectations were high this year for North Florida, as they were one of the top offensive sides in the Atlantic Sun last season, but because it was such a young team, it was easy to forgive their 14-19 record with big things on the horizon. With no seniors on this years squad, coach Matthew Driscoll’s Ospreys were primed for a run at the A-Sun’s automatic bid to The Big Dance, but at 12-16 it appears this could be another wasted season. The reality is, Driscoll knows only one team from the A-Sun is going to feel the madness and so he has put his team through the meat grinder with a non-conference schedule that ranks fifth toughest in America according to KenPom. The Ospreys played early season games against notable programs like Dayton, Penn State, Florida, Minnesota, Florida State and Auburn before conference play began, which is a slate of teams most DI coaches would avoid like the plague. All of those games were contested on the road obviously because the big boys hate to have to travel to a mid-major, but that adversity combined with the quality of competition has the Ospreys primed and battle-tested for a run to the A-Sun title.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville is 12-15, but last season's third-place finish seems like it was light years ago. As impressive as their 2017-18 appeared on paper, the Dolphins were actually the 320th rated school in the nation according to KenPom, which supports the theory that the A-Sun was weaker than usual, with some pundits saying it was at its lowest point ever -- talent wise. The loss of Devin Harris cannot be overstated, as he was an elite defender on the perimeter and ran the point for these Dolphins, but even with their best player by far on the floor, Jacksonville was the worst offensive team in the A-Sun and business has not picked up in his absence. The Dolphins were supposed to be a middle of the road team at best this season and that's where they find themselves, but unlike the Ospreys, Jacksonville cannot blame their poor win/loss record on quality competition, as they've played a non-conference sked that ranks 284th. When looking at these two teams on KenPom’s Adjusted Efficiency Margin, the Dolphins are ranked 234, while the Ospreys are 185. These two teams are close in the standings, but that's where the similarities end. The wrong side is favored here and we plan to take advantage.
