7:30 PM EST. The Blazers of UAB are 14-7, but after having played the 290th ranked non-conference schedule in America, we say, "big deal." All records in college hoops are not created equal and the Blazers are living proof. UAB is atop the Conference USA standings at 6-2, which is a spot not many would have predicted before the season began, as the Blazers were pegged to be a middle of the road team at best. However, because of its inflated win total, UAB is a prime fade target. The Blazers are not the kind of team you want to be spotting points with on the road, especially against a dangerous and undervalued host like Middle Tennessee State.
We backed the Blue Raiders on Saturday taking back 12½ points on the road at North Texas and ripped up our tickets after a 70-53 defeat, but in the spirit of "sticking with it," we will not back down here. Mid-Tennessee is just 5-16, but it has played a non-conference schedule that would make most of the nation’s blue blood teams whiz in their shorts. Middle Tennessee has played the third toughest out-of-conference schedule in the nation, which will no doubt serve them well here during Conference USA play, as its score lines are getting more narrow. The Blue Raiders have also won their last two games at home, which is a good sign. While back-to-back losses to North Texas and Rice are disappointing, it is not easy to travel and win on the road, especially in conference. We thought that Middle Tennessee's price against the Mean Green was inflated and so we have no problem coming right back on it here, at home and taking a big step down in competition. The table is set here for an upset, but we'll gladly put these inflated points in our back pocket while cheering for the Blue Raiders to win outright.
