The Hoyas very simply cannot be a dog at home to St. John’s. The rap on the Hoyas is that their 10-3 mark is misleading because of a soft non-conference schedule that included losses to Loyola Marymount and SMU but every average team will lose games that they’re not supposed to lose. Make note that the Hoyas lost by one point to a great Syracuse team in their other loss this year. Georgetown struggled during Coach Patrick Ewing’s first year leading the program. They finished 15-15 overall and went just 5-13 in Big East action so right now, they have very little market credibility and that provides us with this great opportunity. The Hoyas are coming off a nice win on the road at Butler and are now 1-0 in conference play. Additionally, there were a lot of very close losses in Georgetown’s conference slate last year, thus, this group was not far off from a much more respectable record. The Hoyas are most certainly a Big East team very much under the radar.

Enter the 13-1 Johnnies. Yes, the Johnnies went through the non-conference slate undefeated, but they played exactly one opponent ranked in the top 100 on KenPom. That didn’t just over-inflate their stock; it also prepared them poorly for the rigors of Big East play, as evidenced by their blowing a 14-point lead to lose at Seton Hall on Saturday. This team has little size up front, and despite all those easy wins, Chris Mullin is getting little production from his bench. We’re also not crazy about the chemistry on this squad and it’ll be interesting to see how Shamorie Ponds and Mustapha Heron are going to play together with just one basketball. The 13-1 Johnnies have played the 317th ranked strength of ranked schedule in the country and do not warrant being road chalk here.
