NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
Our ongoing hunt for future value takes us to the West Region of the year's NCAA Tournament where it was a wild first four days of action. The first round went mostly by the book with Florida State as the only lower seed to win its opening-round matchup. However, a crazy second round flipped the South Region on its lid with both #1 Xavier and #2 North Carolina going down to FSU and Texas A & M respectively. The latter was a blowout victory in favor of the Aggies, while the Seminoles rallied late in the second half to send the Musketeers packing. With the big boys out of the way, the road to San Antonio is clear for one of these two teams which is why we are going to bet them both to win the national championship. Arguably both FSU and A&M have already faced their stiffest tests and passed with flying colors. In the Sweet Sixteen, the Seminoles draw #4 Gonzaga, while the Aggies get #3 Michigan after the Wolverines miracle win over Houston in the Round of 32. Early lines suggest both A&M and Florida State should be live dogs come Thursday and if one or both win, we'll be in a great spot for the Elite Eight, as we'll be in a position to send one long shot to the Final Four. The winners of the West will get the winners of a South Region that has also been turned upside down. #5 Kentucky is the highest seed remaining, but both the Seminoles and Aggies are battle-tested after playing the 43rd and fourth most difficult schedules in the nation according to KenPom. With this year's Sweet Sixteen more wide open than perhaps any other, we not going to hesitant to take a swing with these enticing odds. If one of these schools makes the Final Four, we'll also have an opportunity to hedge if it makes sense to do so.
