4:00 PM EST. The Scarlet Knights have lost six games in a row and are enjoying another season as the Big Ten's whipping boy. With just a 3-6 conference record, Rutgers might look like an auto-fade the rest of the way, but we've seen again and again that these guys love to play the role of spoiler. The Knights have taken their lumps this season but have some nice wins over Seton Hall, Iowa and Wisconsin. Rutgers also has the top scoring freshman in the Big Ten in guard Geo Baker, who leads the way with 11.5 points per game.
Nebraska is very much on the bubble with a 9-4 record in the Big Ten and 18-8 overall. The Cornhuskers have won four straight, which will looks good for the committee but it also inflates their value today. One of the reason's Nebraska is currently on the outside looking in is because of the pathetic non-conference schedule they played. While Rutgers was taking its lumps against Florida State and Michigan State, the 'Huskers were thumping the likes of North Texas, and Marist, which helped make up the 273rd ranked non-conference schedule in the nation according to KenPom. As those wins barely register with the selection committee, it makes you wonder why the 'Huskers played those dregs at all.
Misery loves company and a good showing by the Scarlet Knights today would help put another nail in Nebraska's NCAA Tournament bid coffin. If you break down the X's and O's, it's hard to make a case for Rutgers, but that's why it's important to ignore all the noise. These two teams played up in New Jersey just 2½ weeks ago and the 'Huskers won outright 60-54 as a 2½-point pooch. Now, Nebraska is being asked to cover near double-digits. Is home court in Lincoln really worth a dozen points? We don't think so, and so with that, we'll gladly scoop up these inflated points and let the chips fall where they may.
