NCAA picks

Saturday college basketball is lined with well over 100 games on Saturday and it is impossible to write in-depth about all of them so we’re going to add another feature to our Saturday lineup of NCAA hoops. Instead of writing them all up, we’re going to list the games we’ll be wagering on here all in one section with a very short reason as to why. We’ll then tally up the units invested and the end result to give us one final sum of all games played combined. The games today are:

#529 Ohio State -9 -106 over Minnesota

12:00 PM EST. While this appears to be a home game for the Golden Gophers on the rotation board, it will be played at Madison Square Garden, as the Big Ten tries to make the East Coast a part of its territory. The Gophers have been out east all week after games at Penn State and Maryland. Minnesota split both contests, but their overtime win over the Nittany Lions was a fortunate one. The Gophers are imploding as well, as they are without two of their starting five. Asking them to keep up with the Buckeyes will be a tall order, as this game was made to showcase the best the Big Ten has to offer. The Gophers are not in that conversation (Risking 2.12 units to win 2).

#562 OKLAHOMA ST. +147 over Oklahoma

2:00 PM EST. This is one of the biggest rivalries in college sports. Both these schools dropped their previous games in anticipation of this contest but it is the Sooners who are overvalued after making the national spotlight with superstar freshman Trae Young. Kansas State was able to reel in Young, and now the Cowboys have the blueprint to stymie the future lottery pick. The Sooners are ranked and spotting points on the road, which is a risky proposition that you will have to have to pay a premium to participate in. Ranked team spotting road points against unranked opponents on Saturday is a weak play that usually doesn’t end well (Risking 2 units).

#555 Penn State +124 over NORTHWESTERN

2:00 PM EST. The Nittany Lions' stock is low after losing four of their last seven games, including an overtime decision to a depleted Golden Gophers squad on Monday night. You don't have to look any further than this line to see how the mighty have fallen, as PSU was taking back a similar price against Maryland just over two weeks ago. The Terrapins rank 30 spots higher on KenPom than Northwestern, which makes this takeback even more appealing. Penn State also just smashed the Wildcats 78-63 at home in Happy Valley. We’re not convinced that NW should be favored here (Risking 2 units).

#584 STANFORD +5½ -105 over Arizona

4:00 PM EST. Stanford is 11-8 overall, but the Cardinal played a tough non-conference schedule that has served them well in Pac-12 play, as they have ripped off five straight wins including #14 Arizona State last time out. Meanwhile, the #17 Wildcats' stock is on the rise after a 12-1 run that included a 79-58 drubbing of Cal last time out. This might look like a cheap price to spot points with the ranked Wildcats, but a date with Colorado is up next, which is significant, as the Buffaloes handed Arizona its only loss in nearly two months. If the Wildcats get caught looking, the Cardinal can win this one outright (Risking 2.1 units to win 2).

#630 SMU -12½ -103 over Tulane

6:00 PM EST. The Green Wave of Tulane took out Houston last time out but asking a team this inconsistent to put up another quality effort in a total letdown spot against SMU might be too much. Let it be known that the Green Wave was a 7-point home dog to Houston. The Mustangs have lost three of four, but are coming off a big 83-78 win at Wichita State and are in desperate need of W's to gain ground in the AAU standings. SMU is dealing with some injuries, which have further lowered its value, but we will not be swayed. This game has blowout potential,  and is an overreaction to Tulane beating the well-regarded Cougars (Risking 2.06 units to win 2).

The total risk here is 10.82 units.
