Memphis +122 over ATLANTA

8:00 PM EST. The Hawks are flying high after winning four straight games, which now puts them at 14-4 under interim coach Nate McMillan. Atlanta's most recent victory may have been the biggest exclamation point yet that McMillan should probably have the "interim" removed from his title. That was a 123-107 thumping of the Pelicans that included a record setting 46 point third quarter in which the Hawks made all 11 of their 3-point attempts. When you win and more importantly, emphatically cash tickets, as the Hawks have the last four games, the market is going to take notice. In those games, Atlanta was -3½ against the 'Cans but rolled 123-107, a -1½ point choice over the Warriors and covered 117-111, -1½-point chalk against New Orleans again and smashed 126-103 and finally the Hawks were a small pooch (+1) in San Antonio and won outright, 134-129. Spotting what looks to be a small price against the Grizzlies may make the Hawks a tempting play today, but what value there was on this team is long gone meaning the time to play them has passed. If you play them today, you may win but you’re late to the party.

The Grizzlies are a low profile team that is rarely given much of a look from the market, especially when they are fodder for a hot shooting, high profile side, like say, the Hawks. The Grizz have set no records as of late, but they are playing some pretty damn good ball. Wins in three straight, with five straight trips to the pay window should have Memphis getting some buzz from somewhere. However, they are not. Perhaps we're out of line for saying so, but Memphis should be favored in this spot, even on the road, as they are superior to the Hawks in just about every way that doesn't include brand name superstars. Ja Morant would be a household name if he played anywhere other than Memphis. If dude was in Los Angeles or New York or even the ATL, he'd be on billboards. Rarely do the Grizzlies take a night off and they must be played when taking back a price, especially against an overachieving weak home favorite. Tonight we dine on Hawk soup.
