The market may be chomping at the bit to fade a 76ers side that is missing All-Star center Joel Embiid, but just like the NFL, the "next man up" philosophy applies here, as the Sixers showed in a 109-98 win over Boston on Thursday night. With Embiid sidelined, Philadelphia coach Brett Brown was able to tinker with his lineup on the fly and while the base look included moving Al Horford to center and adding Mike Scott off the bench, point guard Ben Simmons also put in some time at the five spot against Boston, "I've always been curious of what that could look like," Brown said after the game adding, "I suspect we'll see it again." The last time these two squads played earlier this season in Philly, the Sixers were waffled 117-98. In that game, Embiid was in the lineup, while Dallas was missing star Luka Doncic. Now, those roles are reversed. The 76ers also appear to catch the Mavericks in a perfect getaway situation.

This is the final game of the Mavericks six-game homestand and we hope they already have one foot on the plane with an eye on a trip to the Left Coast. Last night, the Mavs played host to LeBron and the Lake Show in what was a highly anticipated clash for this resurgent Dallas squad, but it did not go as planned as L.A. rolled with 79 first half points. The Lakers did not look back downing the Mavs 129-114. Next up is a clash with what's left of the defending Western Conference champion Warriors and while Golden State is not the dynasty it once was, teams have enjoyed getting some small measure of revenge this season after a half decade of dominance. When spotting a small price, as they are today, the Mavs have had a hard time cashing tickets, which includes last night when they were a -2½ choice over the Lakers. Dallas also recently lost games outright to Denver and Oklahoma City when asked to cover two baskets or less. Dallas is nor spotting another seemingly small price against a non-rival East foe after six straight at home and the recipe is a sweet win for the underdog.
