8:05 PM EST. The Wizards are just 1-6, but they have had to play some hellacious games to start the season. While it looks terrible on paper, the analytics show us Washington has ground through the toughest schedule so far with games against the Raptors, Trail Blazers and Warriors. A vast West Coast road trip that has also included losses in stops at Sacramento and the Clippers have done the Wizards no favors, but it's not like they are playing poorly. Washington lost a razor-thin 125-124 overtime decision in Portland, fell by just four to the Raps and dropped close games to both the Heat and Kings. A high profile 20-point defeat in Golden State and a 136-104 drubbing at the hands of the Clip Joint are the only two games that Washington had no chance to win. A closer look shows that the Wiz are third in the league in Pace and they are seventh in Offensive Efficiency. However, this is a "what have you done for me lately?" market and that stinker against the Clippers might be enough to keep their stock low but do not make that mistake, as the Wizards are an extremely attractive buy-low candidate.
The Grizzlies came into the season with very little market appeal, but have surprised after going 3-2 to start the season. Memphis has been playing well at home, which is likely why this line is what it is. If this game were played a week ago, there is no doubt that the Grizz would be a pooch in this spot, but their modest success combined with the Wizards lack of Ws has the wrong team favored here. Memphis has played the weakest schedule so far this season, which does explain why they have more wins than losses, but a correction figures to be coming in that department. The Grizzlies shot 55.7% against the Suns on Saturday night, but forgive us for not putting much stock in that 117-96 blowout win over arguably the worst team in the NBA. If the Grizzlies shoot the lights out again here, so be it, but Memphis is 27th in Pace, 26th in Offensive Efficiency and 28th in Points Per Game. The 117 the Grizzlies hung the Suns and the 131 they scored against Atlanta are total outliers. On most nights, Memphis will struggle to post triple digits. A big step back while taking a huge step up in competition would be no surprise here and we're willing to bet it happens.
